A LUX meter isn’t an app on your phone. It’s a cheaper meter. That’s all
Oh, sorry I don’t use apps but a lot of people here are using their phone
I’ve tried the Photone app (I think that’s the name), and it will give you a reading — but personally, I prefer using an actual meter that’s made for the job, as long as it’s affordable. I’ve been using a LUX meter for about 2–3 years now, and it’s helped me a lot. In the early days I just followed the manufacturer’s recommended hanging heights… and let’s just say that didn’t always work out for me, LOL.
lux meter might tell you that both lights are identical (e.g., 20,000 lux). However, a PAR meter would show that Light A is significantly better for your plants because it contains more of the blue spectrum, which plants utilize efficiently, while the lux meter was “fooled” by the high-intensity yellow light of Light B.
Lux is just light intensity. Par is color and intensity. We have LEDs. Do you have HPS
Cheers & Happy growing
I only need to know the intensity of my LED. I can’t make adjustments to my light to change any of that other stuff.
Oh its not that the par meter tells you what type of spectrum the lights giving out. All LEDs have white blue green and red. Some have than more than others.
exactly, that’s why I’m only looking at intensity for my grows. I hoped my post could help someone who can not afford a PAR meter. That’s all. Get to the finish line with a successful harvest is the goal.

Absolutely, but in fairness if you want to know how much blue or red the par will tell you. Most LEDs now you can tune them to grow or flower which is kinda cool. Any way you can find out how much light your girls are getting! Thanks ![]()
I just ask St. Malverde, ![]()
Gets back to what I was saying earlier. Ask 100 people, and you’ll get a 100 answers, and there all correct
that’s why we’re here, to exchange ideas, what works for us.
I’m having a blast
I just learned a ton about light meters, and wasn’t even trying.
Thanks guys ![]()

I had to Google par meter… Dam hillbillies
Sharing ideas is a beautiful thing. Learning is growing. For us & our plants. #GrowersLove
Yeah, we feel the same way about lux. It’s like metric and standard
Do autos grow quicker or bigger? Why do soo many choose autos?
Auto can grow faster maybe, but flower much fast. The concept is you can grow more a year than autos. Mosv autos don’t produce as much as a photo because you can veg longer
Most autos we’ve tried tasted like hops. Not much variety of terpene profile. The best one was Apricot from 420. Master Kush from Sensi Seeds
What do you mean do autos have a limit on how long you can veg
Yes, 30 days. The time it sprouts from seed your are counting down to flower. And don’t stunt them autos will not forgive you
All I really grow is photos there difficult some times but I judt think there prettier in the end
For real? Thank you I’ll be sure to write that down lol
