Couple ? How to private message? I don’t think ppl will obey but it’s scary business anyway. I’d be more concerned about odor as I’m private w/three acres but have neighbors within a stones throw (no tent, fan etc.).
I was also a blaze member last year you had an amazing grow.glad you are here and I’m excited for this year.
Starting seeds. April Fools Day. Synchronicity!
This year in an attempt to be more thoughtful and less in the moment, I’m being sort of methodical. I’m not a stranger to materials and process, made a life fixing other people’s workflow problems, I just prefer to wing it.
Generally I’ve had really stupendous starts with germination, so I’m following the same seed mat, paper towel method I’ve used for 10 years, but adding a grid to my paper towels. The reason being last year the first run of germination went great, but then shortly there after I killed half of the ones I really wanted. So, in a panic, as this is my fave strain, I ordered 10 more, put ‘em in the towels, on the mat and waited and waited and waited and poor me if nothing is germinating, this injustice will not stand! Unfortunately without proper documentation, I’m out of luck. Which I get! But that won’t ever happen again.
My grid with seeds. We can legally grow 12 plants per household, so I’m starting 16, from which I hope 12 will be alive come transplant time. From Seedsman - 7x Gelato41bx; 2x Purple Oreo F1 - both these did well last year in this hot and humid he!!hole. For testing we have 1x Seedsman Sour Diesel and Guava sumpthin or another, 1x Ghost OG that’s been sitting in my fridge for a couple years.
I like these quarter baking sheets. I have a bunch. I was a baker once,
and a gandydancer. Ever meet a gandydancer?
In the tent covered on the germination mat. I turned the light out and zipped the door. ;).
Now, for magic!
What’s that mix cost you and how many gallons of mix does it make?
Math? You know I thought Monday was Apr 1st and last Sunday was Easter? Fair warning!
30 gal=4cuft
quantity at purchase = cost/cost to make 4cuft of soil
4cuft peat = $34/$11 (Home Depot)
27cuft compost = $42/$2 (White Oak Gardens)
4cuft verm = $40/$14 (Amazon) and/or 4cuft perlite = $60/$15 (Amazon)
Build A Soil Craft Blend 10lb = $50/$5
Minerals - $5, maybe
Minerals is a guess. They come in 40-50 lb bags. AgLime (Tractor Supply) is negligible ($6 a bag). The others maybe 150 gals from Azomite, 300gal from Gypsum (each about $50 for a 50lb bag.)
Soooo if my math is right , just using the perlite
30gal/4CuFt will cost about $40.
Thank you for the work.

How come Sting didn’t include “germination” in his song where each stanza ended with the “-shun” sound?
Success! Seeds a poppn’ .
With pending burial, I’m placing the pots in the tent with the light up to get everyone to the same temp.
The soil clumps, but doesn’t have a drip to spare.
I decided instead of solo cups to 1gal containers, I’ll go quart straight to ground.
18 of 20 came up on Monday. The temp/humidity probe on this Aerostream humidifier quit after 3 days. Too bad, it’s pretty handy. The Photone meter needs a better routine for using a paper diffuser. Like which paper? Recycled, 20lb and 24lb all give different readings. Which, given my background in sensitometry, was not surprising. It would be nice if there was a zero function or equivalent. To approximate, I set my light at 18”, looked up the manufacturers specs for what it should read in the center at 100% intensity (609ppd) and used various pieces of paper over the phone sensor (ie camera) till I got close to the spec - two Seedsman rolling papers did the trick. Setting it at 40% gave me about 300 ppd - which corresponded to Mr. Nice’s suggestion. I’ve started increasing intensity by ~5% a day. Lights on 24/7 for 2 weeks, then I’ll start cutting it back till it matches sunrise/sunset times.
Other seedlings are clover that hitched in with the soil.
Started 20 seeds. 19 germinated. 16 planted, 14 came up. Need 12. Tickled these Ghost seeds are germinating after 4 years in the fridge. Got a bunch of those. Double bagging with rice in the outer bag is genius.
Great work, got the popcorn ready for this one. Love your soil too l.
Peace and love

What is a SGB SEED?
Strawberry Banana Grape. It’s a 70% sativa strain that Seedsman sells (maybe others sell it too.) I it grows particularly well outside in this hot and humid area. The nodes on the branches are pretty far apart so you don’t get super bushy plants that are hard to manage for bud rot. It’s a very intense, head high. What we used to call a 3rd Eye High as it tends to radiate from that spot between your eyes up on your forehead.
Time to put this irrigation plan in motion. Get everything Physically laid out, see what I’m missing. Was going to do Charlotte pipe, but forgot I’d already purchased what need to get from garden hose to 1/2” poly and 1/2” poly to 8mm, so poly tube it is.
I love how well thought out and planned out your grows are. I used to be like that but now I’m trying to slow myself down and be more patient
In an effort to keep costs down, every late winter spring I look at what’s available for making living soil. Mostly I’m looking to save money on the perlite/vermiculite/rice hull components. I found this website slashing the price of 50lb rice hulls to $12 a bag. Great, I started an order to see what shipping would be - this is usually where the price gets killed. They want $15 to ship. WoW! OK! How bout for 200lbs of rice hulls? Still $15. They took PayPal - put order in, they ask for a CC#. Before my old persons brain can say “..but PayPal” I’d clicked it to use my Apple wallet. Whoops. Smells off. I check the location. It says the UK. No, not University of Kentucky. Great Britain. So I immediately email the website to query/cancel/see what’s the what and then I put a lock on my CC. I googled the address, obviously a front for many kinds of retail websites. I wait a Couple days and get a shipping notification from China. Ha! Thought so!
I’ve been tracking the shipping for about two weeks. Apparently the product is now at the “local transit hub.” Also yesterday, someone attempted to test that CC# with a $.90 charge. Classic! Seems like a lot of effort to defraud - fake website for rice hulls(!), fake shipping…dunno what’s going on. Canceled the card, reported the fraud attempt - we’ll see if anything shows up.
Website:
My fave barrel seller got a new shipment of totes at a nice price so I added 2 x 275gal to my cistern set up.. Had glycerine in them. Basically new containers with an added water soluble carbon. Win!
I thought supreme court judge just saved 4/20 and protected states? No everything is back n forth with all these people u can’t keep up on it lol we need FULL legalization! Anyway all my buckey neighbors stay save.
You’ve put a ton of work into your garden. It will repay you kindly. I’m assuming organic live soil? What type of nutes are you using?
