Strain: NYC Diesel — Original Soma Seeds cut

I’m 34, born and raised in NYC, been smoking for 20 years and only just started growing less than a year ago. So when I think about what genetics deserve to be in a time capsule, I don’t think about charts or lineage papers — I think about what I was smoking on the streets of New York as a teenager and what that felt like before I even knew what a strain name was.
NYC Diesel was that fire 
That grapefruit and fuel smell — loud, sharp, unmistakable. Growing up in the city that’s what good weed smelled like. Not sweet, not fruity candy, not cookies. It smelled like New York. Alive, grimy in the best way, with an edge to it. Straight gas 
Soma bred this thing out of an Afghani/Hawaiian cross and somehow captured the entire energy of this city in a plant. The high was cerebral, social, electric — the kind of high you’d have walking through Brooklyn or the Bronx with your peoples on a Friday night. Not couch-lock. Not sedated. Alive.
Now that I’m growing my own for the first time, my whole mission is to eventually get back to that feeling. That’s why I started. The dispensaries don’t have it. The streets don’t smell like that anymore. Everything is either too sweet or too sedating. The real NYC Diesel — the original cut — is getting harder and harder to find and that’s a problem because that strain represented something.
Future growers should experience it because it’s not just genetics — it’s culture. It’s a whole city. It deserves to survive.

Traveled quite a bit through the Burroughs, Long Island, Manhattan and surroundings. And though folks are talking me into indica, sativa is what grows better where I am. I think I’m with you though. I like getting things done after vaping. Not into turning into a vegetable. And while I never smoked much in those days, I do remember that smoke. Hard to forget!

I do both I prefer a nice smooth smoke for day time Jack herrer, white widow or sweet somango then evening I switch to Indica usually blueberry muffins, peyote wifi, gdp or blue headband. That helps control my ailments.

Have some of them growing. Wish I knew what Jack Herer looked like. Have that, Strawberry Jack and Honey Haze. No idea what any looks like but in my garden nevertheless. Like to at least know their timing (when done)!

I remember the old school strains from about 30 years ago, I don’t know how many people would remember them, the original chocolate thai, or the original Jamaican red hair, but if I could have preserved any those I would.

Psssst, check your chart; Highland Thai is a 19°N pure sativa from Burma and Thailand. Your chart says it is an indica.

“I have Skunk seeds you can have.” said the guy that lived near us during our electronics school.
Didn’t think much of it, skunk gets thrown around a lot but today’s skunks are not a tenth of what real skunk is.
We got the seeds, started them with brick seed (this was back in 96-97)
Fast forward a month , brick seeds were 6 inches tall, normal growth, but the 3 skunks. WOW!! They were waist high, 13 leafed gan leafs. They were about a foot long, 2-3 inches wide. Beautiful plants.
They stunk so good, 150 feet away and the smell would knock you down. No spice, floral, this or that, it’s straight up skunk smell. Have you ever been around one that’s sprayed or been ran over? That’s what real skunk should smell like.
Back then being 18 years old, never heard or thought of cloning, and at that age there were 4 of us that didn’t have enough sense to not trust the others. We had 1 bad apple.
Three of us had 2 , five gallon buckets of babies, came up on our spot, big yellow no trespassing sign in the skunk spot. Signed by the pigs. We dropped what we had and jetted. Went back in just to see, noticed the little brick plants were still there. They are not going to take the special ones and leave the rest.
The sign came from Lowe’s. The boy that was the bad apple disappeared, along with the skunk, he took them to an indoor, hidden, grow of his daddy’s.
The dad owned greenhouses and sold veggies and flowers but he had a secret indoor, under the clubhouse, nice setup.
I’d saved those for sure.
There’s one more that I got to actually harvest and try. Firstearning to grow, being taught by my cousin. Brick seeds. There was the 1 though. THE ONE.
It was like a mild acid trip. Hallucinogenic. Brick seed grown with chicken 
water.
IF I’d not grown and harvested and dried and cured it myself I’d swear it was laced. Back then , 100s of seeds every brick we would keep, none were the same, so we didn’t know what we had untill it was smoked. We probably wouldn’t have cloned back then anyway, seeds were everywhere. That one plant though I don’t think could be beaten by anything today, or any ever to come to be honest.
Hindsight is always 20/20 , all the “what ifs” and mistakes can easily be seen afterwards.
If I had those 2 , the skunk for sure and the bag seed plants. I’d be sitting pretty on a mountain of cash. The bag seed might have been one of the big names today that came from a bag seed . I sure haven’t tried any with its effects though.
Sure hope maybe there’s a skunk seed in some old 90s beans I have. I’d love to spread it around. Most doesn’t know what the real deal skunk was. No other description but it smells like a skunk sprayed it. No hints of this or that. Straight skunk spray. That’s it.
I’d save them all if I could, so people could have what they liked. To each his own, id like to be able to keep everyone’s favorite. May as well wish big if I’m going to wish.

I AM ALREADY PRESERVING MY WHOLE TENT
I am a first time grower! These six plants are my FIRST six plants and they are ALL from the Seedsman Megamix Fast Pack. So anyone who has questions about that pack, I hope this post answers!!
They are ALL unknown mystery strains and I named them all myself. And at some point have ALL MUTATED! Some of my names are offensive so just to name a few,
MILF MUTANT- My DANKEST Plant, and a huge indica.
SEXY SKITTLEZ - My FROSTIEST Plant, and gave me a triploid clone!!
GOON GUSHERZ - My most MUTATED plant, BEST STORY!!
As a seedling, she started DABBING with these mutated leaves.
Then as she grew, she sprouted a third leaf.Ended up being a twin stem, and she has this tiny little mutant clone at the bottom who I MUST GROW OUT AND CLONE!!
I am having a blast growing these UNICORNS and for the price they offer these seeds at, absolutely get started with these guys! You might pull a mutant.. or all 6.. like me.

That was my second choice. Skunk rivals anything else I’ve had in terms of raw potency.

ONE OF my old time favorites was Acapulco Gold . tried some recently from a seedsuplier I wont mention .
But although it did have the familiar taste of gold it was sorta like an off version water down kind of like comparing Kool aid to drink aid . The taste was barely there and it want a deep rich flavor. And the color was off this was a darker green from the original Acapulco Gold of the 80’s which the duds were almost a yellow green cast.

I would preserve DJ Short’s Blueberry. If I remember correctly, he began developing it in Eugene, Oregon in 1979 by crossing an Afghani male with highland Thai. It has unique flavors and effects that are hard to find in any other strain. While several legendary strains trace back to Blueberry, none taste as distinctly like blueberries. Other breeders have tried valiantly to imitate it, but none have succeeded in replicating it.
A friend gave me a bunch of retired clone mothers back around 2010. He said one was blueberry, so instead of sticking it in the ground outside I patiently nursed it back to health and took cuttings. Then I vegged it out again and flowered it indoors. The smell was unmistakable and I couldn’t wait to tell my friends, but I waited until it was dry enough to smoke. I shared it with some elder growers from the Eugene area and they immediately recognized it. Once word got around, everybody wanted some. No one I shared the clones with has it anymore, and I’ve lost it as well(if you ever get a cut called Blue T-Rex, you found it).
Luckily I recently acquired a pack of DJ Short Blueberry seeds from seedsman and I’m looking forward to continuing to carry the torch for my community

Red bud was chunky bud the whole bud was an off orange red color the flavor was like smoking sweet potato pie
