Me. Im my biggest challenge. I have no idea why, actually I believe its the illness I suffer with.. so the jist of it is my mind, my thoughts, that hold me back. This is an everyday all day kinda occurrence for me as well. Im not good enough, it’ll never work, you’re a knucklehead and will just let your plants wilt away. Or whatever. It really is the pits. I think k the more I get pumped up to start, I get shot right back dow. Its miserable for everyday life.
BUT HEY, im here with a community of experts, newbs, and jackamoes!!! I feel ill have great support, if I can actually ask questions and for help, that’ll get me through it. This is really so thing bigger than the grow itself for me. And as I type this my mind d is telling me I’ll fail, ya can’t never see something through completion. UGGG. CALGONE TAKE ME AWAY!!!
Man, life can be a B*tch, but stick with it. This is a medicine that has changed many lives. Having a plant growing, is like having a pet. You got this! A little TLC goes a long way! Never give up!
Biggest challenge thus far in almost 20 years of growing was battling Russet Mites:
Hemp russet mites (Aculops cannabicola) are microscopic, cigar-shaped pests that exclusively attack cannabis, causing curled, yellowing leaves, stunted growth, and damaged buds. They are often misdiagnosed as nutrient deficiencies or broad mites. Control requires a rapid, IPM-based approach using predators, oils, or sulfur before infestation leads to total crop loss.
And…unfortunately I did lose an entire flowering crop and tossed all veg plants as well to make sure to totally eradicate the Mites. The Amazing Dr Zymes i noticed was a good product that helped slow reproduction on live plants. I used Diatomaceous Earth in the empty grow tents and that helped totally eradicate them. Waited about a month to start new plants. This situation really shot me down, but helped me learn a lot as well and got back in the soil full force after
Big lesson learned from this Challenge:
Always isolate new plants in your grow space and use preemptive measures to make sure you don’t spread pathogens to your grow!
Maybe a bit of a cliché for me but my wife was a big challenge! She doesn’t smoke and is not a fan of our favourite plant. I took a leaf out Scotty Real’s book and got my grow going finding it easier to apologise after the fact than ask for her consent!
In terms of growing challenges it is climate as my tent is in my garage underneath the house. We get 4 seasons here and I can only grow between mid March and early December even then it is an on going challenge keeping the temperature and humidity in line especially during the night cycle.
This spring I put a high table in the tent with a board to raise the floor level and reduce the volume of air to heat with a small ceramic heater. Whilst the plants are small this has been a game changer with temperatures being more stable and the humidity in control rather than up at +/-80%!
I am having trouble making clones The guy I bought the clones from said I can make clones from clothes do you have to do something different cuz I in the past I have had no problems making clones off of my plants
I have found that when cutting clones ,use a sterel razor blade ,cut diagonally and either plant or put in clonex solution immediately .Put in shaded area for about two weeks.
The 2 biggest challenges for me have been PH balance and SPIDER MIIIIIIIITES!!
It took a min for me to fully understand that theres supposed to be a “balance” between ur soil PH and ur water PH. When i found a video about the SLURRY TEST, everything just clicked. If the soil’s ph is high, ur water needs to have lower ph… and vice versa. The goal is to get soil to the desired ph (around 6.5 for me)…. DUH!
Spider mites leave white patches on ur leaves. The whole time i thought it was white powdery mildew. On my 1st and 2nd grows i didn’t find out till late in flower. I was inspecting my trichomes, and i SAW SOMETHING WALKING on my buds! I actually jumped . Literally nothing got rid of them. I had to harvest early and do an intense bud wash. I learned how to maintain a proper environment with much better circulation on my 3rd grow and had no issues. Now im on grow 4! Its on and popping now boi! FOH spider mites
