The issue I am reporting is not an issue with your seeds. It is an issue I am passing on to fellow growers on what not to use. I had a successful initial germination. One OG Kush had a tap 3/4" in just over 48 hours. I thought that was wild. The issue I have is about the seed pods I put them in. I used the jiffy pods you can get feom lowes home improvement garden center. After the transfer. I waited 5 days and nothing popped up. I used tweezers to gently pull the soil mix back and found that every one of my seeds stopped growth no long after I put them in. I lost all of my babies other than 1 D.og Fuel because I did not germinate it yet. Just want to share this so other growers dont make the same mistake I did this spring. I will attach a Pic of the seed pops I used.
The replies were spot on. I’ve been composting w/additives for vegetable & flowering plants/bulbs for over 40 yrs. It’s true to be careful with nutes (less is more at first). But as a cannabis grower I’m new. I’ll be posting w/pics in later growth.
Last year temps in the summer was my biggest issue, so this year I have an AC unit in my lung room. Not had to use it yet but now I’m looking forward to a summer harvest.
Also managing plant height was also always a bit of an issue but my current run I have made a scrog screen based off what Northern Scrogger teaches and it’s a game changer for me and now even considering putting a table in the tent so I don’t have to bend down as much to tuck the girls under the screen
Paper towel method is really easy. But I’m with ya on those jiffy pods. I never liked em….for anything. Canabis, melons, beans anything. Lmk if need help I don’t care a bit to share my method
I too have tried the Jiffy pots and stopped those after 2 grows since cannabis out grows them too fast for the investment into them. My alt. grow-to is those 3in pots you fill with dirt and they are made of paper pulp, the light brown ones that break down in the dirt. I like those since I never have to “transplant” and avoid transplant shock.
The biggest challenge personally for me was trying to decide what nutrients to use. In the beginning I would come across a new amendment/nutrient and want to include that in the line up. I found that less is more and also found that growing organic in living soil suits my growing style.
Congrats on finally figuring out what the fertilizer companies don’t want you to know… organic done right, is all you need! Years ago I learned about a fertilizer brand from a youtube channel promoting the use of their light meter. Since then I’ve been using … JR Peter’s 77860 Jack’s Professional Peat Lite 20-10-20 Fertilizer, 25 lb. When I bought mine, I got it from Amazon but they no longer carry it, or the at least the seller I got it from doesn’t. but point is.. .it’s not a cannabis targeted product and yet has the ideal nutrient profile. And while everything is expensive at first, when I use soo little of it per gallon, Amazon says I ordered it 4/8/2021 .. .and I am no where near even half-way through it. The more organic I grow, the less of even this I use to supplement my plants with. So this may be worth looking into.
Thanks for that!… actually, I still have most of my original bag. For those who only grow 6/12 plants at a time (per state laws).. .that 25lb. bag lasts a long time!!
Welcome, you found a good place to escape! I’m from the US what does bobs your uncle mean? It can’t be any worst of there than what we have to deal with. Could you imagine if # 47 was your king!
