Back in the “don’t tell anyone” era, as a teen I started growing in my bedroom closet with (2) 4 x 2 fluorescent lights. Later in life I bought a 2x3ft storage cabinet at Home Depot and customized it for lights and ventilation. This was back when the skinny fluorescent tubes were the alt. option compared to metal halide lights. With that, my best yield was 4oz dry.
Later in life I moved back into a closet the 2 x 6ft size and ran 2 – 4ft grow lights. That produced my 1st 1lb harvest and I was stoked.
In recent years, I moved into a 4 x 4 grow tent using a Mars Hydro 4x4 foldable grow light for more even coverage and moved into cloth pots which the plants really love. This tent has produced up to 2.25lbs. of cured flower in just one grow.
I try to cycle my lights so that they are on during the off-peak hours to save on money. I try to water them when their morning starts, light cycle pending. I always talk to my “girls” and they seem to enjoy the connection.. or maybe they’re just CO2 “w-hores” and love it that I’m breathing on them!!!![]()
I love to grow. The plants are the most “botanical” before putting them into flowering and they still have all their fan leaves and look good and healthy. I only pull fan leaves as they’ve served their purpose and the plants drains them of their resources. The pic I posted was one of my more colorful grows. … at that stage I really just want to keep them there because they look their best… I didn’t want to harvest them for that reason alone!!![]()
When it comes to harvesting, for those like me who comment on large harvests, I trim wet, and always have. With the plants I grow, I spend between 45-60min. per plant, and with that 2.25lb harvest on 9 plants, that was a 2-day process after work. So plan to put some time into the trimming afterwards… and “gift” some flower to those you talk into helping you!!![]()
When it comes to seeds, early on I have tried one or two other seed vendors because they had what Seedsman didn’t. But not to “kiss up” or anything, but I primarily stayed with Seedsman because I’ve never had an order confiscated, which was a risk before they moved state-side, all my seeds have germinated and if they didn’t (usually the promo freebee seeds), Seedsman was always good about making things right and credited my account with free seeds the next time I ordered.
When it comes to strains, I like the old school ones and the landrace strains. I brought back some seeds from Jamaica once and while they only produces (2) males, I used them to pollinate a Master Kush cross I was working on and today I have “Mobay Kush”, my “house strain”. I will sometimes use their genetics to cross with the females I grow to make new strains to try. So I guess that makes me one of those “strain hunter” types.. and that’s what makes this whole adventure a lot fun!!
I love to teach what I know and eagerly help others when I feel I have a solution that can benefit them. Many of you see that in the comments I’ve posted to your posts!!
