Thanks to the 2018 Farm Bill, I started buying CBD flower online during the early 2022’s. I would find the occasional seed every now and then. One day I decided to pop a seed and see what happens. I had no knowledge of gardening let alone growing herb. No equipment, lights. Never grew anything in my life. It had one central stem and one single larfy bud, the whole plant was about 8 inches tall.
It was a failure by all accounts, but it did ignite a spark. December of 2022, I bought my first legal THCA flower from Dr. Ganja. It was 7 grams of Mochi. Thought that was so awesome. That’s when I started delving more into the hemp space and found out that seeds were available online and legal to purchase. I started following growers on Youtube and message boards and started increasing my knowledge and thought I could do this.
I bought my first grow kit in June 2023 from AC Infinity. It was a 3x3. My grows became more and productive and successful. However, it seems the learning does not stop. I learn something new with each grow and continue to adapt and tweak changes.
I am basically retired since Covid, so I am fortunate to commit any time of the day, 7 days a week. It has turned into a hobby and therapy at the same time. It is a satisfying feeling to grow something and put your love, heart and soul into it. I think it has taught me patience and I have brought that into more areas of my life.
Genetics, Genetics, Genetics. One thing I have learned over last 3 years is that you can have the best grow equipment, nutrients, and the environment dialed in, but if you have unstable/crappy genetics, it makes having a successful grow more difficult. By being involved in the community, over time, you just learn from everybody else’s experiences about genetics and who they buy from.
I would say to someone wanting to try their hand at growing, just do it. Even with a little knowledge, you can have success. You can also learn as you grow. You can also start with minimal resources and purchase more equipment later that suits your growing style.
