Come get stoned in the Old School Genetics Lounge and talk about or share your old school genetics!
I’ll kick it off with my next grow, which will be planted in the next 48hrs, and I’ll will be posting updates: DJ Short in collaboration with Blue Star, the 1998 F4 Blueberry (1998 F4 Blueberry x 1998 F4 Blueberry S1).
Alright! I had some extra time to set up and start off day 1 [from seed]. So to start, I’m not using the ACI self-watering bases yet, and instead am using a simple deep saucer and planter elevator, which is actually what I used as self watering bases by adding cheap 1/4 inch wicking cord through the elevator before the upgrade. I’ll also be swapping to a better humidifier in the coming days, fed from outside the tent.
Yearld Pro 105W and Viparspectra XS1500 Pro 150W for total 255W
Soil is ~40% ProMix High Porosity w/Mycorrhizae, 45% Happy Frog, 10% xtra perlite, 5% coco (from a yummy grocery coconut, for fun)
Feel free to ask any question and I’ll try my best to answer when I’m on. Here’s to the the old school strains!
cool setup - got the same viparspectra lite as you in the same size tent for the mothers and LOVE the vibe in there sweet old skool seed selection too - grew seedsmans blueberry in 2024 and the 3 plants varied a lot, one was SUPER potent knock you out style and the others more mellow with 1 being ultra fruity - would love a mom of that one…. have another pack of blueberry seeds in the fridge so its a future project! look forward to seeing how this little blueberry bean gets growing!!
It’s really amazing to experience the different phenotypes you can get from the same strain. And like you I want to get dedicated tents/rooms for clone/seeds/pollen production. I’ll be saving at least 2 of these seeds for pollen and seeds for preservation and cool breeding projects. I’m really happy to hear you enjoy the light, my only issue was dealing with heat getting in the 30°C’s with higher intensities, adding to my older light’s heat. I first tried cooling with a cheap evaporative “AC”, which barely brought it down by 1.5°C, even adding ice to it, and the humidifier in the tent but not good enough. So for this grow I ended up buying a legitimate 8k BTU portable AC that will feed directly into the tent (as opposed to cooling the room, since the living space is already cold). I’m curious to see if you encountered similar issues and how you might have overcame them.
yeah its so amazing how unique each plant truly is - would love to get more into breeding someday
haven’t had much heat issues with this light as i only use it on the low setting with the moms and just a notch up for seedlings - have an in-line fan in the tent plus an oscillating fan… could totally see heat being a thing if its on the high setting and with another light! will keep this in mind too so appreciate the input… sounds like you found a good solution tho, and i’m glad its working out
really like that natural hemp colored grow bag!!! thats gotta make a difference with the light in the small space
not sure if this qualifies fully for old skool but partly at least - a pic for fun, from the vault - a grow from 2012 - the tallest plant ever to grace the room - t-haze x skunk #1 from sam the skunkman - called her ‘the 50 foot woman’ lol - she was a legendary plant… was just winging it mostly back then but it sure was fun and full of surprises
Thats awesome lol! That qualifies for sure and that is definitely some old school vibes. Still looks like a nice amount for wingin’ it. I’d of been super proud to grow something like that when I started out.
It’s jarred now but turned out to be a little more sweetness skunk but I’ve read that I think the plant needs more sulfur in the nutes to bring out more of the skunkyness. I need to figure out what will actually deliver more sulfur so I can start adding. We have also started a 100% haze plant that says 16 week flower time. When I get pics I’ll start to share. If anyone has ideas or knowledge about the sulfur I’d greatly accept.
Epsom Salts (Magnesium Sulphate) and Gypsum (Calcium Sulphate) are my go to sources, but you could use Potassium Sulphate or just sulphur chips, the chips will drop pH of the soil a lot.
