I’ve been using an airstone in my water bucket but it keeps pushing my ph high. Like 8.7 to 9 even 9.4. Is it worth using this stone at first I thought it would have to help my plants. I.e. more oxygen into water but at this rate it’s causing me all kinds of headaches
I doubt it’s the stone causing pH to rise, it will be the release of dissolved gasses and you have hard water. The air stone will just make it offgas quicker.
Do you think the air stone is beneficial tho? I’m using promix potting soil. I fill a 5 gal. Bucket up 1 or 2 a week ph to 6.5 or so and water from it ever other day.
It will keep the water oxygenated and stop it going stagnant. If you use it in a few days it probably doesn’t matter. I would bubble it until the pH stops rising so you know it’s finished offgasing and won’t continue to swing up.
Another pH’d water question: If I’m using 0 PPM filtered water that is around 4-4.7pH, is it fine to use a few ml per gallon of potassium silicate as pH up for all water going to the plant? (I also use a drop or 2 potassium hydroxide as pH up per gallon sometimes.) But my concern is if it’s possible the plants are getting too much potassium silicate this way. I haven’t noticed anything yet but I’m curious and ai+searching a bit didn’t give me straight answers. Sorry if this is a dumb question. I used to use generic pH up/down, but these work really well too. Thanks ahead of time to you and anyone else who could answer.
Yes I use potassium silicate as ph up, usually need much less than recommended dose as a supplement.
Make sure you add it to the water and mix first before adding anything else.
I use tap water and it’s never been a problem but if you want a better harvest just get ph up and down and test strips
It’s fine to use during flower in lower quantities / for pH up. With solubles I aim for 30ppm of Si in veg/stretch then 15ppm in flower. For me that’s half recommended dose in veg/stretch and quarter dose in flower.
Always keep your water at correct temps too….alot of times you think it ph or nutes and it’ll be h20 temp. Try to keep it between 72/74° roots be happy and plenty of oxygen.
I don’t like those numbers at all personally. For soil that water temp is fine but hydro I’d recommend 60-68f water temps. There’s less dissolved O2 in warmer water, and funk grows much quicker.
Also don’t like the VPD recommendations. Nobody I know is flowering at 70% humidity/1.1 VPD.
I like ~1.4VPD in flower, at 77f leaf temp that’s 50% RH.
Yeah it’s high! And id not recommended it but I figured id post it just for a reference/guide my water stays around 72° btw water temps i learn off jug dealers!
I use tap water (my ph is like 7.0-7.6) i put it in 5 gl bucket with a airstone pluse a mosquito dunk and bubble it 24hr then use it iv got 2 buckets and 2 stones. But anyways. I use up most all of the water and refill them for the next leaven the dunk in there till it disintegrates. But if I keep the water and don’t use it 24-48 it’ll go up a little each day I use to use half bucket and i just kept add to it and the ph kept running out of sign I keep my water clean and clean my buckets weekly.

Does oxygenated water matter i use hose water mostly and I’ve tested my water it shows mostly oxygenated everything I don’t think you need to do that my tap water comes eith well over enough oxygenated test yours though but im sure yours is to
