Chasing a dream

It was 1977, three young boys play at a construction site on a beautiful Saturday afternoon, and find half a joint in a caterpillar.
Puff puff giggle puff, and suddenly a whole new world had appeared. Smoked some weed through high school and later as I did auto body repair. It always eased the tension and just made things better.
We never knew what we were smoking most of the time. It was just weed. Classified mainly as stoner weed, light green stuff was hydro, red haired sensi, giggle stick, Thai, or Afghan.
Then strange names began emerging. Purple haze, blue dream, bubba kush. These quickly became my unicorn, only truly existing in myth and legend.
Time and life, and kids meant a more responsible life was in order. We had grown some plants during this time, using seeds from bags, Iowa has lots of corn fields, and it grow very well at the ends of the rows. We never knew what we had, male female, was it done? Probably not, lol..
Joined the Army in 93, spent 10 years in Germany. That provided me the greatest opportunity of my life. During that time, I was able to go to Amsterdam, Budapest, Paris, Iraq. I’ve been skiing in Switzerland, and smoked a hookah with two cool Saudi guys in Qatar.
But all good things must come to an end. Mine did in 2006 when I refused to testify against Gen Patrous, from there I was discharged a year later, in a most unfriendly way.
With my life somewhat low, I went to work painting. New construction homes mostly, back to smoking again, finally, didn’t have to worry about drug test anymore..
Good smoke began to get harder and harder to get. And it suddenly started costing more. As more states began to leagalize it, that spark was suddenly reignited. Just grow your own… But how? I had a basic understanding of how to grow stuff, I grew up in farm country. But where to get seeds??
Hello seedsman!!
Like most, it started with a little pot of dirt, a seed, and a dream. This is going to be the best weed EVER!! lol
As CPT Ahab hunted his whale, I began my pursuit of the legends of my youth. Curse you purple haze!! You will be mine!!
Small pots gave way to larger pots, to grow bags, closets, to spare rooms.
As time went on, I somewhere got old, I had been suffering from PTSD ever since the Army, the nightmare’s would keep me up at night, and fatigue was taking its toll. My wife had suffered a heat stroke one day while we were at the beach, we lived 60 miles north of Panama City, and went to the beach often.
This prompted a change of scenery, we chose Missouri because as a kid, we would vacation to Branson, and I always loved the Ozark mountains. And it’s a legal state.
So here we are, we have our outdoor plants in the summer, I just love those big photo plants. One of those shipping containers with our hydro system in one side, and a small wood shop in the other. We make pipes, hopefully someday we can sell them, we’ll see. Right now, we make a few and give them to friends.
My wife and I are both on disability now, when we first moved here, we had considered try to get a business license and grow/sell, but it just costs too much right now. So we grow for fun, for ourselves, our family, and friends. Maybe someday we’ll get a big building with a high tech hydro system with 200 plants, but for now, just focusing on producing consistent results.
We have certainly had set backs, everyone does, it’s what you take away from it that matters, just because you lose a plant, for what seems to be “no reason” stop and ask yourself, there must be a reason.
That is what makes this forum so cool, it’s ok to screw it up, there’s plenty of people here who can help. Why? Because they’ve done it too.
Our last two summer grows were very good, the purple ghost candy was super, as well as the strawberry cola.
We have grown several different strains, and had some turn out great. While others, not so much.
As this years outdoor plants just came up, I look onward, hoping they do well, hoping I don’t do something, hoping summer storms don’t destroy them, lost a whole side off my blue head band last summer.
I hope to chronicle their grow this year. So with help from you guys, this 9lb hammer, Cinderella 99, bubba kush, blood moon gelato, and ghost og,should be awesome.
I’m 61 now, I’ve made peace with myself, and the purple haze. I have approximately 27 different strains in vacuum sealed bags, and I love the variety.
My wish is to continue to grow, and learn. Spend more time with family, do a little more fishing, a less stressing.
Well, that’s my story, and I’m sticking to it

I look forward to you documenting your grow cause I can never get enough plant pictures and knowledge.

Welcome Steven! That sounds like a good plan to me. Family, fishing and smoking. What kind of fish you catch? We live on a lake and get trout and bass catfish?

Lol. I don’t catch much more than a good buzz, and a great day.
We are attempting to catch perch, trout, bass. Catfish at night, we have blue cats and channel cats, plus the usual bullhead and flatheads.

Lol, catching a buzz and leaving empty handed is better than being sober with fish!

Hey, fellow FL evacuee here. I’m Jayme, nice to meet you.

As a former Floridian, what’s the winter like there in Branson?

I can see why. I lived in the country of Illinois for most of my childhood. Loved the wide open spaces, privacy, beautiful dark starry nights…I miss it so much. I’m still in the country but nowhere near as remote as I used to be

Hi!, welcome to dry land!
Winters are mild. Wet cold, hangs around mid thirty and low 40 thru jan. February is stormy winter with snow once or twice, March is bitter cold for a week, then all the sudden about mid March, the sun comes out. Spring. Turbulent weather until May, then it’s on till early November

Yeah, I can’t do it, lol. We had the opp to move to Paducah until we saw the winter there. Can’t do the cold like that. Florida ruined us. :slightly_smiling_face:
