Grove Bags vs. Jars

Just as the title says, what do you guys think? Would love to hear from everyone.

I have used both and if you know how to use them then they both yield the same result! Which is better or easier?….the one that works best for YOU and your storage situation. I do like to open my cabinet and see all the labeled jars. I need to rig my storage cabinet doors so that when I open them that angel choir sound plays :innocent: you know what I’m talkin’ about…

This was my first harvest I harvested around 5 oz I put 2oz in jars rest grove bags the terps from both are amazing but the grove has less taste and flavor vs the jars from my first experience

Also interested.
Have always used jars, but bags would be much easier to store.

I’m only on my 5th grow and have only done the jar method. I’ve looked into those bags and I just can’t wrap my head around how something ‘like’ a ziploc bag (I know it’s more than that apparently) is going to handle humidity management. I mean if you have to make sure to dry your buds to the perfect level before putting them in, then what are these bags doing that the jars cannot?

From their own FAQ’s: If a moisture meter in the stem of a bud reads between 10 and 12 percent, the moisture content of the flower is at an ideal level for a Grove Bags cure. There is no need for a humidity pack or any additional elements as long as the moisture content of the flower is in that designated range. If the moisture content is too low, Grove Bags suggests adding a cannabis fan leaf from a live plant to the bag. The technology in the bag will use the additional moisture in the leaf to achieve an appropriate moisture level for a successful cure.

The way I’m reading this FAQ statement is you have to nail your drying before you put them into these bags much like you would for putting them into jars.

If I still need to be opening them up to check levels and burp, then what’s the diff?

Seriously, genuinely curious on this topic and looking forward to other’s input as well regarding the OP’s post.

Yeah, they’ve always just seemed like expensive mylar bags to me.

You do still have to nail the dry like with jars but you don’t have to burp the bags, the material they’re made from absorbs and releases moisture to maintain the ideal RH so no burping to release excess moisture. I’ve used them in my past two grows and they work great, not even the brand name Grove Bags, I use Sweet Decades and have some wonderful flower from them.

I like the bags for first month or two after you ‘think’ you’re ready to store. But I’ve personally noticed after about 3(?) months, the bags appear to loose flavor and aroma compared to my sealed glass jars. ymmv

Grove Bags all the way. Glas is nice and romantic, but it breaks and needs burping. I am team Grove Bags

I’ve used both, and I really like the look of the jars, but the grove bags are a little easier so that is the way I am headed.

Grove bags couple pound bags or half pound seal done for atleast 2weeks it’s good if stored in dark 60% room

This is exactly me n my thoughts lmao why I switched

From what I’ve read, the buds do need to be dried damn near perfect then its recommended to heat seal the bags to optimize the effectiveness and eliminate burping.. so “ideally” you shouldnt have to re-open/check the bags…ideally lol

Yes need to be or should be heat sealed for long term storage….but bags should adjust everything I’ve never had trouble with them jars was just to much but miss the hands on and smells lol ideally u want to have a moisture meter for soft wood to test when drying anyways to determine time to jar or bag for cure but most dont go that far.

1 week dry then into c-vault. Burping for 1-2 weeks and after that I’ll throw a boveda (62%) in and let them sit for a month

I’ve only have a few harvests yet and have only used bags, but I bought glass jars when I started. :man_facepalming: I think I’ll do an experiment next harvest and do half and half and check back in with you guys with my opinion on the results. :+1:

Grove bags for the win. Much easier than individually burping a bunch of jars every everyday. Hands off, simpler approach.

I trialled Grove bags last year and I like them. I agree with many of the points made above re glass jars and their benefits. I store my bags in my wine fridge at a stable 14ºc and the results have been great so far. I have harvested the same plant into both bag and jar and smoke what is in jar first then finding the follow on bagged flower just as good.

On my last harvest I had time to dry thoroughly but was leaving on holiday so everything went into bag as no burping was possible. Very happy with the result and how convenient if you can’t be managing the cure in jar.

You know there is recent discussion on this burping(what some say flaw) is regarding glass. Some people now say there is no need to burp and they will cure if you leave them alone. I don’t know myself. I am a glass guy and expense and lost of terps stuck to the bag affects my mindset for the grove bags.

Ive only used grove bags but i noticed how the bud matured and changed smell over time. Cured. But at the same time i was opening the bag and smoking it so i guess i was burping it like glass. Idk, the bag worked well though.
