A Rudimentary Guide on: How to make Cannabutter and tinctures

Everyone loves treats. Why not spice them up a little with a simple cannabutter recipe.

This recipe is for 1 ounce of dried flower to make 1-ish cup of buddar.

Items needed for this recipe are as follows:

1 ounce of dried flower

Cheese cloth

2 1/2 sticks of salted/unsalted butter

HOW TO CALCULATE (mg of thc)AVAILABLE IN FLOWER:

There are 28348.5 milligrams of flower available in each ounce. Round that to 28350.

After decarbing your bud you will only retain 87% of starting weight of ounce. Meaning it goes from 28350 to 24664.5. Round that to 24665. This is your final weight of flower in milligrams.

Now take 24665 and times that by your percentage of thc to get, in milligrams, how much active thc is available in that ounce.

Example: 24665 x (10% thc) =2466.5 milligrams thc available in that ounce.

Example 2: 24665 x (30% thc) = 7400 milligrams thc available in that ounce.

HOW TO MAKE BUTTER:

1.) preheat oven to between 225°F-245°F.

2.)Once oven has reached temp, place flower onto a baking sheet and place in oven. Allow 25-45 minutes in oven to properly have decarboxylation happen to cannabinoids.

3.) once the flower has finished its baking, place a 6-8 cup oven safe pot into oven to warm, as well as lowering oven temperature to 170°F (no higher than 190°F or you risk burning butter).

4.)place butter into warm pot and allow it to melt. Once fully melted, place decarbed flower into butter and place in oven.

5.) cook at 170°F for 3-6 hours, stirring every 10 minutes the first hour and reducing to every 20 to 30 minutes the final few hours.

6.) once you are done cooking the butter, pour butter through cheese cloth in to molds or storage bowl, pressing the flower to extract all the butter and cannabinoids you can.

7.) place butter into fridge to harden up, you will notice a liquid underneath the butter. I encourage you to use that in coffee or hot cocoa. Or you can place butter into freezer to harden the liquid up (heavy in thc) and then use frozen butter for your desserts.

How to make cannabis tinctures for medical use:

Items needed:

2 mason jars

1 fifth of 70% or higher (140+ proof) flavorless white liquor

An Amount of fresh or dried flower

2 non-bleached coffee filters

Steps:

1.) place both mason jars, your amount of cannabis you’re using, and liquor in to freezer (-2°F or lower is best).

2.) allow 8-12 hrs for items to get as cold as possible.

3.) pour enough alcohol in flower mason jars to submerge 1/2 to 2/3 of flower in jar.

4.) begin muddling or agitating. Do this for 30 seconds and place all items back into freezer for 5 minutes. Repeat this step until the total time left in alcohol is 30 minutes.

5.) place a coffee filter over top of 2nd mason jar and pour the alcohol from flower jar into the 2nd mason jar. Do not rush, it will take a few to drain. Remember to press the flower to get every drop.

6.) (optional step) repeat steps 3-5 until you feel you’ve achieved your coloring/taste/texture.

7.) to refine the amount of alcohol to cannabinoids, you can do a double boil setup (don’t exceed 190°F when heating due to alcohol flammability), or you can leave in direct sunlight light to slowly evaporate the amount you desire.

@SweetsensiWA if you do a half cup of butter in the cookies, you’ll have a heavy taste of pot with the recipe I posted. If you want less pot taste I suggest taking the recipe I posted and half the amount of butter to melt in to achieve higher concentrations in a smaller amount.

Well, I’m gonna try it the way you made the recipe first! If I want to change it , then I will. But for now I’ll just try it. When I make my cookies I literally put everything in them. Chocolate chips, walnuts, toffee bits, oatmeal, peanut butter, dark chocolate, butter fresh eggs from my chickens raw sugar. These are going to be some super good cookies with an extra kick! I’ll have to make a double batch , my kid would be pi!seed off if I just made myself some. Lol​:drooling_face::rofl:

She’s heavy green, I cook my butter for the 6 hour mark.

I haven’t really gotten into making edibles, but we have extras after harvesting. I will be using it for this. I have watched a few videos on making RSO and FECO. My cool uncle used to make this tincture with poppies.

8.) Now take that tincture and put it into a mini rice cooker on low and boil off the alcohol

9.) After the bulk of the alcohol has evaporated, transfer the oil into a small metal cup and place on a cup warmer for 2 hours. Add a couple drops of purified water. After about two to three hours, you’ll have RSO. :slight_smile:

@SweetsensiWA , the liquid the does congeal, is heavy in the thc department. Just make sure you use that as well. It’ll take them from okay cookies to put you in the couch cookies. :cookie: :drooling_face::wink:

Yes you certainly can. You’ll find multiple different ways of making your butter, just make sure you always decarboxlylate your flower before use, otherwise you’ll short yourself on the “high” possibilities. :wink:
